WHAT IS MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE?
Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a gentle,
rhythmic technique used to promote the optimal
functioning of the lymphatic system. Using
precise pressure and hand movements stimulates
the flow of lymph andresorption into the venous
capillaries. The effect of MLD includes,
alleviating pain, soothes nerves, reduces
swelling and stimulates the functions of the
immune system. Here at Anchor Physical Therapy in Pittsburgh Pa, we are
experts in the field of Manual Lympyh Drainage.
INDICATIONS FOR MANUAL
low back, neck, knee...etc)
For our bodies to
function well, we need the lymph vessel system
to carry off excess water, proteins, foreign
substances and wastes from the tissues which
cannot be carried by the venous capillaries.
Once this fluid enter the lymph vessels, it is
called lymph. During the transport of
lymph, it passes through lymph nodes where it is
cleansed, filtered and concentrated and then
entered back to the blood stream.
Damage to the lymph vessels or nodes quickly
results in swelling (edema), congestion and
eventually pathology. If there is damage to the
tissues (ex. sprains, burns, inflammation,
hematomas...etc.) the lymph vessels must
transport the damaged cells, wastes and toxins
